Note №8
Perceptual Interface
21 February, 2025
The outcome I am interested in lies in an art interface that responds to a person’s state and behavior. It functions like a mirror, yet one that reflects each individual differently and changes over time.
This mirror is organic in nature. It engages irregularities, texture, and natural phenomena, and can move toward decay of matter, or, conversely, toward lightness and a sense of breath. This depends on the state of the person interacting with it.
There is something powerful in the possibility of looking into such a mirror and experiencing oneself. It is not indulgent. All images reside within it, including those that are disturbing, distorted, or ugly.
Over time, this system would continue to evolve, and the images would gain additional layers through environment, lighting, atmosphere, events, and even smell.
The most interesting phase would begin when everything appears to function as intended, and distortions and strange artifacts start to accumulate. Gradually, it would become harder to understand what is happening, and the system might turn unpredictable.
Yet this would inevitably lead to change, as it marks a step from simply feeling to understanding how we feel. The subjective would be brought outward, much like language was once externalized into an alphabet.
As a result, new possibilities would emerge for observing and analyzing these phenomena from the outside.
